VAMPIRA AGE 86 DIES
In the 1950’s the first gothic girl was Vampira. She dreamed of becoming an actress and started her career modeling to pay the bills. After that she modeled in magazines. in 1953 she attended a masquerade party in a black wig and tight long black dress. She caught a producers attention and in 1954 had her own show called “The Vampira Show”. Even though she won an emmy for her role as most outstanding female personality, the show was cancelled after one year.
She took some time off and in the 70’s and Vampira whos realy name is Nurmi opened an antique and jewelry shop. In the 80’s she briefly reappeared when producers wanted her to revive the Vampira character. After a few disagreements Nurmi decided to leave the show. Another actress was cast for that role. With a few modifications and a new name the character Elvira was introduced. Nurmi tried to sue the producers but the case did not hold up in court.
Nurmi as Vampira inspired many characters including Morticia from the Adams family. Nurmi will be sadly missed. She died on January 10th as she slept.
