Gothla US – Gothic Belly Dancing

Hi, my name is Liz Ohanesian and I’m a writer in Los Angeles. I saw Hot Gothic Stuff and wanted to send you a link to a story I did for the LA Weekly.

Last weekend, I had the chance to cover Gothla US, which is a gothic belly dancing festival/convention sort of thing. The performances and costumes were outstanding. Here’s the story. There’s also a slideshow that is linked at the top of the page.

I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for reading.

Fashion Straight Out of a Tim Burton Movie

There is a hot new gothic designer named Erin Fetherston from San Francisco, California. In the Fall 2009 Mercedes Benz fashion show held February 15, 2009 she used blacks, grays and reds. I did not care for the large oversized florals but the other colors went well with the muted metallic’s.

These gothic outfits look just like they are from a Tim Burton movie. If you are looking for a new look you may be able to get some good ideas on how to mix and match clothing for that gothic rebel in you.

For Edgar Allen Poe Fans

There is a fascinating new book out by Peter Ackroyd called “Poe, A Life Cut Short”.  It’s a Biography of Edgar Allen Poe who is known as the praised author that does not get read a lot. Ackroyd says that Poe has been misrepresented and he did not invent gothic literature, but reinvented a tradition of horror and morbid drama. Poe was born in Boston in 1809 I found a number of interesting facts about Poe it is no wonder he was considered one of Americas important writers even before his death in 1849.

Money Saving tip: go to the library and reserve this book when it comes in as it was just published in Jan 2009.

Happy reading! Gemolis

Gothic Topics – Take 2

Hey, I just wanted to let everyone know – we had a problem with our hosting company and software for the last few months, and we’re just now getting the blog back up after being down for several days and unable to get in for quite a lot longer than that.

We’re rebuilding everything ’cause the wonderful software didn’t save -anything-. Good thing I have a copy!

The one thing that’s really gone are all the accounts of members. If your account is gone please re-register or send me your info (gem@hotgothicstuff.com) and I’ll set up a new account for you.

In the meantime, I’m setting up some temporary accounts in your names (so I can show your comments and posts in your name – not mine).
Thanks for your understanding!

What a mess!

DARK SHADOWS FESTIVAL – ANNUAL EVENT

Since 1983 there is a gathering by the cast and crew of the original Dark Shadows soap opera that used to air on ABC. It’s a great time where you can get autographs, have dinner with the stars, watch performances and of course by Dark shadows merchandise.
Jonathan Frid (Barnabus Collins, Vampire) who played the vampire on the Dark Shadows Series showed up last year for a crowd of 700 people. The banquet is usually $50 and you get a autographed picture of Barnaby. The 3 course meal with door prizes and performances sounds like a lot of fun.
I sent an email off to the people in charge of the festival to ask when the next dark shadows festival be. I’ll keep you posted. Keep watching the website for updates.

DARK SHADOWS – GOTHIC MOVIE – DEPP & BURTON SCHEDULED

From 1966 to 1971 there was a Gothic series (soap Opera) called Dark Shadows. It started out as a long train ride to visit a mysterious mansion and shortly added Ghosts, werewolves, zoombies, monsters, witches and warlocks. Dark Shadows became very popular after the first appearance of Barnaby Collins the 175 year old Vampire. Barnaby Collins became one of the regulars on the show due to the characters rising popularity.
Barnaby Collins caught Johnny Depps eye at an early age so much that Depp purchased the rights to the series last year. Teaming up with Warner Bros. and Tim Burton they are scheduling to start working on a remake of Dark Shadows in London England this summer.
I can’t wait for them to start work on their new Gothic movie. If you guys hear anything new on this please let me know.
Thanks, Gemolis

PROCRASTINATION

Well summer is here and I’ve been procrastinating. The weather is warm and friends are calling to hang out. I’m afraid spending time writing has been less appealing that going out and having fun. I must apologize for not getting my last article done sooner. Let hope for a couple of rainy days so I can stay inside and write.

GOTHIC HAIR STYLES

Greetings! it’s finally spring! Time to do something!
When I first though of making a list of gothic hairstyles for the website it seemed like an easy task. Then I started to make the list and realized that not only goth hairstyles were on the list, but soon also included punk hairstyles, emo hair styles and dying your hair in the most wonderful shades of color and then repairing your color. Further contemplation Filled my racing mind. Stay tuned, I hope to have all that put together in type for you gothic guys and girls soon.
In the mean time here is probally the best gothic hairstyle website by a famous gothic photographer. She specializes in the Victorian and Edwardian era. These are people who live and breathe gothic. This is one of my favorite sites. Tons of pictures and clothing for ideas on how to look certain goth styles as well as other subcultures within the Gothic culture.

GOTHIC TATTOO PICTURES

I have updated the Tattoos page with some Gothic tattoo pictures. They did not come out as clear as I though. I think I need a new camera, I don’t think 3 mega pixels is from this century. Anyway, I have loaded some example Tattoos to http://www.hotgothicstuff.com/gothic-tattoos.shtml

GOTHIC GUYS IN BLACK WITH TATTOOS

Hey there, I have a special surprise for you. We just got in some great pictures of some guys with Tattoos. I’ll be working on them then adding them to the main site on the Gothic Tattoos Page.
Two of my dear friends came to visit today and show off their new tattoos. I just happened to have my camera ready to witness the occasion …
I’d like If you have any Gothic tattoos that you would like to show off if you’d send in the pictures I’ll put them up. I think it would be interesting to compare tattoos.
Have a great sunday!
Gem
